Sommerfrydhagen should be upgraded into a well-connected, active, and clean community park with a strong emphasis on multi-generational, collective play and informal sports.

What works well today:

Playful architecture: The curved stone wall is fantastic. I have had my kid chasing me in circles.

Core community assets: The trees, the water feature and lawn.

What needs improvement:

Play equipment: The current setup leans heavily toward solitary play. The sandbox often feels unappealing and messy, while the netted basket swing is far less engaging than traditional swings.

Sports facilities: The small sports cage is cramped, dark and unappealing. Outdoor table tennis is difficult due to wind exposure.

Perimeter issues: The poster-covered wooden fencing creates dark, hidden pockets that attract public drinking and urination, making edges uninviting.

Suggested improvements:

Collective ball sports: Prioritize multi-user sports infrastructure. An ideal addition would be a compact court or a shared badminton/volleyball net, alongside a dedicated practice wall for hitting tennis balls.

Active challenges for all ages: Add a dedicated climbing/bouldering wall for older kids, teenagers, and adults to activate underutilized zones.

Better playground balance: Install classic, proper swings alongside equipment designed for cooperative group play. Avoid sterile solid rubber mats; perhaps wood chips work best.

Seamless cycling connection: When unifying the park towards Sverres gate, ensure the vital bike thoroughfare cutting through to Sverres gate remains open, safe, and smoothly integrated, avoiding tight obstacles or pedestrian conflicts.. Perhaps heated in the winter.

Open, well-lit edges: Remove blind fences to create clear sightlines and deter illicit behavior without over-sanitizing the park's local character
